Cairo photo marathon 2013

Egypt Photo Marathon, took place as planned on Saturday 2nd November 2013. The event ran in 7 cities simultaneously for one phase of 10 hours; Cairo, Alexandria, Mansoura, Assiut, Minya, Hurghada, Sohag. While 323 individuals registered for the photo marathon, 121 participants completed the full competition across all governorates.

The project has achieved its objectives: namely to provide an opportunity for both amateurs and professional photography enthusiasts, to engage creatively with that medium, and establish an inspirational space for elaborations of their art without any obligations other than those outlined by the ground rules of the competition; to stimulate engagement, dialogue and critical thought between citizens and the cities/neighborhoods they inhabit, and to foster community building amongst photography enthusiasts in Egypt.

Exhibition of Winning Series opened to the public on 21st December 2013 at Darb 17/18 Contemporary Art center in Cairo- displaying the top two winning series, and two special mentions for “best series;” 10 photos as “Best of themes” and another 10 photos as “Special Mention for Best Theme.” Images from most of the seven cities were included in the exhibition.
