A group of 25 young people are sitting in a circle at Cloud Co-working space in Minya. They have just finished watching the documentary film ‘The Recycling Myth’ uncovering the truth behind our misconceptions around recycling.
“I was under the impression that I can use single-use plastic freely as long as I could figure out a way to dispose of it safely or recycle it. But after watching the film, I realized that due to the sheer amount of plastic consumed all over the world there is no safe way to dispose of all of it, and recycling all of this waste is simply not happening,” says Esmat Ibrahim, a doctor who also runs a small sustainable fashion business during the event.
“The film helped me realize that we should aim to reduce our consumption of single use plastic altogether,” she added.
