The Danish Egyptian Dialogue Initiative (DEDI) is inviting female DJs to apply for DEDI DJ Masterclass 2021 taking place from October 6 to 8, 2021 in Cairo.
The Masterclass is curated by Tia Korpe, from Future Female Sounds, and Zeina, from Unfamiliar, who will also be leading the sessions.
The DEDI DJ Masterclass will bring together four Danish and four Egyptian participants. The program is designed to allow the participants to improve their DJing techniques in a comprehensive masterclass-level (3 hours every day). In addition, they will exchange knowledge and personal experiences among themselves and team up for back-to back jam-sessions. On the last evening, there will be a joint performance open to the public. In addition, the Danish participants will get to pair with their Egyptian peers to explore the music scene in Cairo by visiting local music centers and art spaces.

Selection criteria:
The DEDI DJ Masterclass 2021 is addressed specifically to advanced female DJs, below 35 years old, who have had previous gigs locally, nationally and/or internationally and wish to advance their DJing career. We encourage applicants who have interest in cross-cultural inspirations and relationships between Danish and Egyptian talents to elevate their confidence and creativity on the decks.
Successful applicants will be notified by August 1st, directly via e-mail from info@dedi.org.eg.
Successful applicants from Denmark will have their return flights, visa fees and accommodation covered by DEDI. Lunch and coffee breaks will be provided at the venue.
WHEN & WHERE
The Masterclass takes place in Cairo, Egypt on October 6,7 and 8 (sessions will take place from 5pm to 8pm) at KMT House, the urban-tech hub in Maadi, Cairo.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS
The Danish-Egyptian Dialogue Initiative (DEDI) is an inter-governmental body that was established in Cairo in 2004. The overall aim is to foster knowledge and mutual understanding of society and culture among Egyptian and Danish people. Our approach is dialogue and partnerships. We are focusing on the fields of culture, media and civic participation. DEDI is a part of the Danish Arab Partnership Program (DAPP), financed by The Danish Foreign Ministry.
Future Female Sounds is a non-profit organisation, community, and a booking agency founded in Copenhagen in 2017, with the mission of making DJ culture accessible to women and gender minorities globally. We provide women and gender minority DJs with skills, access, and community building within the music industry. Over the last few years, we have launched global programmes in Copenhagen, Beijing, Tunis and Paris and trained over 400 new DJs, while running the biggest DJ booking agency with an exclusively female roster in Scandinavia. Future Female Sounds is based in Copenhagen and run its own community space operating as a booking agency, studio, and DJ school.
ZEINA is a Cairo based DJ/ music producer and trained lawyer. With a steady commitment to building community around music, Zeina has spent the past 10 years between Canada, Cairo and Berlin. She’s set on building a place for female electronic musicians with her ‘Unfamiliar’ nights – which aims to create an ‘unfamiliar’ experience and events, in which women are in charge of organization, guest lists and line-ups.
Future Female Sounds and ZEINA began collaborating with DEDI last year when the first female DJ workshop took place in Cairo.
GDPR policy:
We follow Denmark’s GDPR policy, and will collect data such as name, e-mail, address, passport information, telephone number and press photos in order to book each successful applicant. The data is handled through encryption, only available to the organizers of the DJ Masterclass and the third party organizers such as venue space and hotel.
Media content generated during the DJ Masterclass including audio, photography and video will be shared with relevant media platforms during and after DJ Masterclass.
