Open Call: Advanced DJ Masterclass in Cairo

DEDI DJ masterclass 2021

The Danish Egyptian Dialogue Initiative (DEDI) is inviting female DJs to apply for DEDI DJ Masterclass 2021 taking place from October 6 to 8, 2021 in Cairo.

The Masterclass is curated by Tia Korpe, from Future Female Sounds, and Zeina, from Unfamiliar, who will also be leading the sessions.

The DEDI DJ Masterclass will bring together four Danish and four Egyptian participants. The program is designed to allow the participants to improve their DJing techniques in a comprehensive masterclass-level (3 hours every day). In addition, they will exchange knowledge and personal experiences among themselves and team up for back-to back jam-sessions. On the last evening, there will be a joint performance open to the public. In addition, the Danish participants will get to pair with their Egyptian peers to explore the music scene in Cairo by visiting local music centers and art spaces.

The content of the Masterclass will be focusing on;

Building your setlist

Rekordbox

Looping

BPM transitioning

Hot Cues and Pads

Recording and Live-streaming your mix

Visual Marketing & Branding

Social Media Strategy

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

The Danish-Egyptian Dialogue Initiative (DEDI) is an inter-governmental body that was established in Cairo in 2004. The overall aim is to foster knowledge and mutual understanding of society and culture among Egyptian and Danish people. Our approach is dialogue and partnerships. We are focusing on the fields of culture, media and civic participation. DEDI is a part of the Danish Arab Partnership Program (DAPP), financed by The Danish Foreign Ministry.

Future Female Sounds is a non-profit organisation, community, and a booking agency founded in Copenhagen in 2017, with the mission of making DJ culture accessible to women and gender minorities globally. We provide women and gender minority DJs with skills, access, and community building within the music industry. Over the last few years, we have launched global programmes in Copenhagen, Beijing, Tunis and Paris and trained over 400 new DJs, while running the biggest DJ booking agency with an exclusively female roster in Scandinavia.  Future Female Sounds is based in Copenhagen and run its own community space operating as a booking agency, studio, and DJ school.

ZEINA is a Cairo based DJ/ music producer and trained lawyer. With a steady commitment to building community around music, Zeina has spent the past 10 years between Canada, Cairo and Berlin. She’s set on building a place for female electronic musicians with her ‘Unfamiliar’ nights – which aims to create an ‘unfamiliar’ experience and events, in which women are in charge of organization, guest lists and line-ups.

Future Female Sounds and ZEINA began collaborating with DEDI last year when the first female DJ workshop took place in Cairo.

GDPR policy:

We follow Denmark’s GDPR policy, and will collect data such as name, e-mail, address, passport information, telephone number and press photos in order to book each successful applicant.
