After four successful rounds of Bilingual Design – bringing Egyptian and Danish designers together to design and produce furniture, this year the project is taking on a new challenge which is to focus on Design for Circularity.
Following a one-week long study trip in Copenhagen, where the ten Egyptian designers and 19 Danish Design students, visited showrooms and participated in a three day seminar on circular design, the group will get together once more for a study trip in Cairo and Damietta. In Cairo, they will visit various ancient Egyptian sites and museums to be inspired by Egypt’s design heritage, and in Damietta they will work with the skilled craftsmen at Pinocchio Furniture Factory to bring their sustainable designs to life.
The program is carried out in collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen, DESiGNDUSTRY and Pinocchio Furniture Factory in Egypt. The results of the workshop will be shown in Cairo and later in Copenhagen in public exhibitions where the designers will get the opportunity to receive feedback from the public.
